Recommendation: a minimum level of horse riding experience.
The canton of Guamote is the most traditional region in Ecuador. 95% of the population is Indigenous (while in the whole of Ecuador it is only 25%). Guamote itself has about 5000 inhabitants, but in the mountains surrounding Guamote another 40 000 people live in small communities. On this trip we take you to an Indigenous family in the community of Palacio Tiocajas. The family owns several horses which they use for taking care of their wild bulls high in the paramos.
After the horses are saddled, we leave for a 4 hour rtrip into the paramos. High up in the mountains we will look for the wild bulls from the community. On the way we will stop for a picknick and some canelazo.
It is a scenery ride with amazing mountain views. We will explain you about the local history and the Indigenous culture. You will get a chance to talk to the locals and exchange life experiences. After the horseback riding we will drive back to Guamote, through the mountains, enjoying some more beautiful scenery.
Please take into account that a considerable level of horseback riding experience is required.
