Byron, our neighbour in Guamote
START PROJECT: October 2016
Byron is 19 years old and our neighbour and lives with his sister/brothers and mother in Guamote, at the other side of the street were the Inti Sisa Art Guesthouse is located.
Byron has 4 brothers and one sister:
*Norman, 23 years old and currently living on the Galapagos.
*Holger, 21 years and living at home.
*Alex, 17 years old and living at home.
*Diego, 15 years old and living at home.
*Juanita, 14 years old and living at home.
Byron´s mother looks after the children and his father works at the municipality. However, he has to end his work in December 2016, due to the bad financial situation of the country.
Since we operate the Inti Sisa Art Guesthouse with 24 rooms the brothers are helping us and through this way they take advantage of the tourism. They started helping to take the suitcases of the tourists inside, later they did some easy jobs in the Guesthouse and after that they helped in the kitchen cleaning the dishes, serving the food in the restaurant and preparing the tables for breakfast next morning.
This year Byron finished his ‘escuela’ in Guamote. Eva, the manager of the Inti Sisa Art Guesthouse, decided to put Byron on a private training in Quito, called the ITHI which stands for Tecnologico Internacional de Turismo y Hoteleria. It is a special school for tourism-jobs such as guides, operators, financial jobs in tourism but also for hotels and bars. Byron is doing the national guide training and if everything is going fine he will finish his studies in the end of 2017. It is not an easy study and he has to study a lot and learn a foreign language. He also must follow internships; part of it he can do in the CE Travels office in Quito and the Inti Sisa Art Guesthouse in Guamote.
As Eva pays for the study of Byron we from CE Travels decided to pay his accommodation in Quito, his lunch and his weekend transport from Quito to Guamote.
Byron stays now with a host family were his host mom cooks for him and looks after him. We are happy with her, she has a golden heart. We hope that he can handle the change from the small Andean village of Guamote to the big city of Quito and that what he have learned in college in Guamote will be sufficient for this private training.
Being a smart guy he understands that he now has an opportunity he would never have without Eva and CE Travels.
This very sympathetic project fits completely into the atmosphere of Inti Sisa Art Guesthouse/CE Travels´ mission: TOURISM IN FAVOR OF ALL OF US.
