Community tour: exploring indigenous culture, wisdom and craftsmanship

We will kick off the day with a visit to our educational facility, Inti Sisa, located in Guamote, where we have our kindergarten and offer classes in sewing, computer skills, and recreational acitvities. Our team of facilitators frequently visit nearby community schools to share their expertise in these areas and offer alternative educational programs.

Our journey continues  with a scenic drive through the mountains, during which we'll share insights about the history, culture, and traditions of the region's Indigenous peoples. Our first stop is at the "Batalla de Tiocajas" Educational Unit, where we've initiated an agrotourism project with the students. There, you'll be introduced to traditional agricultural methods and the use of medicinal plants, a wisdom handed down through generations.

Next, we'll visit the Zuña family in the community of Chanchan, who will demonstrate how they craft typical ponchos from sheep and alpaca wool. This unique experience offers a glimpse into the traditional clothing customs of the Puruhua Indigenous people of Guamote.

Our journey then continues to the community of Chacaza, where we'll visit the authentic choza (house) of the Tambo family. Here, you'll have the opportunity to try your hand at grinding machica on a stone mill – a true test of your arm strength!

This tour provides a window into the daily life and labor of Indigenous families in traditonal mountain communities.
