Magic of the Andes: The mystical world of Ozogoche

By navigating the winding roads through the awe-inspiring paramo terrain, you will eventually arrive at Ozogoche, a genuine Indigenous community that's approximately 55 kilometers away from Guamote. This neighborhood is located near the National Park Sangay, which boasts a whopping 300 exquisite lakes. During your journey, you will get to visit two of these lakes and catch a glimpse of the everyday lives of mountain residents while being surrounded by breathtaking views of Ecuador's pristine and untouched nature at an elevation of 3800 meters above sea level.

Accompanied by a local guide, you will explore the area on challenging trails, passing by colossal rocks and freshwater rivers. The more daring individuals may even take a swim in one of the lakes. As you stroll, the guide will entertain you with stories of the captivating surroundings, local traditions, and tales about the lakes, including the enigmatic phenomenon of the "suicide birds," which plunge headfirst into the icy waters of the lakes every September.

Following the adventurous walk, the Zuña family will be offering us a traditional trout lunch, with the best trout in the country. With tired feed but full of new amazing memories we'll head back to Guamote. This return trip offers us the opportunity to take in even more of the stunning scenery that this astonishing region has to offer.
